Wines as nature intended

Terre Di Kama of Santa Tresa Sicily

Stefano Girelli and his sister Marina merged with Massimo Maggio to take over this estate. Wine has been made here for over 300 years in one form or another. The vineyard is situated about 1 hour south of Syracuse and there are approximately 50 hectares of vines, comprising of the native Sicilian Nero d’Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grillo, Catarratto and the Viognier grape varieties.
As the estate practices only organic methods of viniculture, it therefore cultivates a variety of non-wine related flora in order to attract insects and fauna which inhibit pests that affect the vines and their fruit. An example of this is the families of foxes that are nurtured in order to keep the rabbit population down due to their detrimental effect on the young vines.
The soil is comprised of a light red sandy loam on a well-drained limestone base.
